OVERVIEW

Emergency Management Construction

DCA Contracting Services was awarded two design-build projects by the Will County Board that were built simultaneously. One facility was a new office for the Will County Animal Control Center, and the other was dedicated to serving the needs of Joliet’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA) with office spaces and vehicle bays. The EMA is a new single-story 18,000 SF insulated masonry and glazing facility with a storage mezzanine, seven vehicle bays, offices, and a large training room to support Emergency Management. With both projects being built simultaneously on a condensed site, DCA Contracting Services developed site management and construction logistics plans to organize the site and schedule, allowing both projects to be successfully completed in less than a year. The new EMA beautifully displays a contemporary usage of masonry.

Combining Beauty and Efficiency

Additionally, the highest-performing insulated masonry on the market allowed DCA Contracting Services to build the Will County EMA project with beauty and efficiency. The EMA coordinates the emergency and disaster mitigation, preparedness, planning response, and recovery efforts for the County in conjunction with the State of Illinois and other related entities. The Will County EMA was previously operating out of two separate buildings that were not their own to house their vehicle fleet and a training program. Will County needed a facility to protect their significant investment in emergency vehicles and a full training center for staff and volunteers alike in their mission of continued enhancement of public safety.

DCA Contracting Services and Wight & Co. worked directly with Will County to consolidate their operations in an approximately 11,500 SF new building dedicated to EMA. The building houses a Mobile Command Vehicle and other emergency fleet vehicles. The climate-controlled, seven-bay vehicle storage area provides ample space for the fleet and additional support such as battery charging and dispatch notification. There is direct access to the vehicle storage area and a training room, kitchenette, and support offices. The facility supports the community by assuring safe living and working environments. A pillar of safety and reliability for society deserves to be built with the most reliable materials possible, including InsulTech, which features stainless steel “Fire Integrity Straps” that guard it against significant fire and wind events. A comprehensive selection of architectural finishes and colors allows for a beautifully functional, finished project.
