OVERVIEW

DCA Contracting services, Inc., as part of our contract for the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP), performed earthwork, drainage, and utility infrastructure for the new Runway 9L/27R, including relocation of Willow-Higgins Creek and construction of a 360 acre-feet storm-water detention basin.

9L

Runway 9L-27R is 7,500 feet long and 150 feet wide. It is designed to accommodate Group V aircraft with up to 214 feet wingspans. The project included constructing a full-length parallel taxiway and associated high-speed exit and crossover taxiways between the parallel highway and the runway. The major scope of work included clearing, grubbing, earthwork, paving, and connecting new pavements to the existing runway, taxiway, and shoulder pavements.

The new 9L-27R runway features the latest in technological advances, such as embedded weather sensors, new FAA communications equipment systems, and light systems to transition pilots from instrumental to visual flight for landing.

Runway 9L-27R was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the O’Hare Modernization Program for Sustainable Design.
